Nayanthara is a native of India who was raised in Syria by her Christian parents. However, she converted to Hinduism at the Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai on August 7, 2011.
Her mom is Omana Kurian, and her dad is Indian Air Force officer Kurian Kodiyattu. Her only sibling is Leno Kurian, a resident of Dubai, UAE.

While Nayanthara was still in school, she began her modeling career on the side. Initially, she declined the position in the film when offered by director Satyan since she had no interest in acting in movies.
Her first film was Manassinakkare (2003), also in Malayalam, and it marked her acting debut.
Her first film, Ayya (2005), directed by Hari, marked her debut in Tamil cinema. After starring in the comedy Ayya, director P. Vasu chose her to star in the horror film Chandramukhi.
The film was in theatres for more than 800 consecutive days. In 2006, with the film Lakshmi, she made her first appearance in a Telegu film.
She finished filming her second Telegu film, Boss I Love You, in the same year, 2006.
