Cereals rank among the most widespread crops worldwide. Cereals can easily adapt to any climate conditions, and ease of storage and versatility in cooking makes them extremely popular with consumers and farmers worldwide.
Despite some problems in the global pandemic, the FAO forecasts for cereal production hint at a substantially positive situation for 2020/2021.
The initial data available are inspiring: projections set given the record figure of 2,780 million tonnes, beating last year by 2.6%.
Corn production is predicted to rise by a record-breaking 1,207 million tonnes, and rice production is predicted at 508 million tonnes.
On the other hand, global wheat production is expected to decline slightly: down to 758 million tonnes from 762 million in 2019/2020.
